It’s gotta rhyme every time so today is the first installment of Rhyme Time. The idea comes from my friend and client, Jay Segel. (thank you, Jay!)

Songwriters

I’ve always believed songwriters are some of the most creative folks on the planet.  They listen to the same conversations as the rest of us but they hear and perceive the words and sentences differently from the rest of us mortals.

So, I’m going to attempt to find a couplet a week which I find to be particularly interesting, funny, poignant or just plain badass. (Hey, it’s my blog so I get to choose. That being said I encourage you to send me ideas at any time!)

Rhyme

Huey Lewis and The News have released their first album in nearly twenty years.  (See the link below for the backstory. ) The lead single is “Her Love Is Killin’ Me” (Johnny Colla, Chris Hayes. Huey Lewis). In this example every single line points directly to the title which, I must say, excites the daylights out of me!  (In fact, that’s one of my mantras with writers.)

Here is the line:

“Off and on like a flashing light, First thing in the morning and the last thing at night.”

Simple.  Elegant.  Points to and supports the title.

Please check out the full lyric and the song at the bottom of the page.
