WHICH BOX ARE YOU IN?
Last week I was speaking with an incredibly talented artist and he said something that stopped me in my tracks. “Man, I’m just a bar singer, I can’t afford to hire someone to help me.” All I could think was he has just put himself in a box and sealed the lid. He dug a deep hole, jumped in and asked me to pile on the dirt.
WHY WOULD YOU SAY THAT?
Why in the world would anyone describe himself that way? But he’s not alone. I’ve had songwriters tell me, “I’m just a girl writing songs down in the basement.” Seal the lid on THAT box and pack that baby up!
The universe has a funny way of making our statements come true and chances are these two are prime examples. Self-fulfilling prophecies, if you will. Living in a sealed box in a deep hole down in the basement or here.
LET ME OUTTA HERE!!
How about trying this instead. “Right now, I’m a bar singer but I’m working on my craft and I have a plan,” or “Today, I’m just a girl writing songs in the basement, but I’m joining NSAI and I’m going to attend some networking events so I can get closer to my goals.”
Here’s one thing I know for sure: mind set and attitude are everything in this business.
